Event Stage Ramp

Do you need a stage ramp at your event? Here are a few pointers for you to consider.

Accessibility at events is a must nowadays. Events have to ensure that all individuals, regardless of their abilities, can fully participate and enjoy the experience.

From a production point of view, a ramp should be considered for those guests arriving on stage with disabilities.

Just chucking a van ramp onto the side of the venue’s stage is not good enough, it needs careful thought to get it right. Some important things to consider:

  • Length
  • Width
  • Incline
  • Surface/Materials

The recommended gradient for a wheelchair ramp is 1:12, or 5 degrees of incline. We use this calculation when erecting our stage platforms. For example, if our stage height is 600mm high, then the ramp must be no shorter than 7.2m. Any shorter, and the ramp incline could be too steep for wheelchair access.

Our ramps are always 1m wide, carpeted to reduce slips, and have a solid side pelmet to reduce the risk of a wheelchair falling off the edge.

When a venue says they can provide a stage ramp, it’s worth checking the above points with them.

Or alternatively, contact us to discuss your staging requirements. Ours will definitely be at the correct incline, covered in carpet, and most importantly, safe.

We are an Event AV company providing staging and audio visual support at conferences and events throughout the UK.
