Planning an Event in Prague?

Posted by on Jan 29, 2016 in Blog

This January, we flew over to the Czech Republic for a site visit at the Prague Marriott Hotel in preparation for our client’s conference in April. Nothing could have prepared us for how cold it was! You might have seen us tweet a photo in the snow outside of the Church of Our Lady before Tyn.

Delivering events throughout Europe has become a regular thing for us over the years, but Prague is definitely a new destination to add onto the list of cities we’ve worked in. Prague is well-known for its thriving culture and historical venues. With so many diverse types of meeting facilities, historic and modern, the city is the perfect place to accommodate the needs of your event. However holding your event in the city of a thousand spires can throw a few spanners in the works logistically for your AV crew.

If you have decided that you wish to hold your event here, you will need to consider that there are now strict driving restrictions to low emission zones when entering the city of Prague. For your AV crew to gain access into the restricted areas in a van or a truck, they will need to apply for an individual temporary or long-term permit to enter these zones. This includes filling out various documentation containing the reasons as to why they need access into the city. These documents are then sent to the Prague Town Hall and signed off by the mayor’s office. Once this has been processed, DHL will then send out the permit to your AV Company back in the UK. This must be displayed in the vehicle at all times on the journey otherwise you could be subject to a fine from 1500 CZK to 2500 CZK.

A very helpful employee at the Prague Marriot Hotel assisted us in ensuring our paperwork got to the town hall and personally delivered them herself so a big thank you goes out to her!

We’re looking forward to returning for our client’s conference. This was just another logistical challenge for us in the world of AV and events!
